When I decided to enroll here in Silliman University Medical School, my family used to tell and remind me that I will surely be meeting new folks which are of having very far different lifestyle from Davaoenos, should I say, those from Mindanao, Philippines. My cousins, living in Negros Oriental, Philippines and in Cebu City, Philippines, even told me that Sillimanians (students from Silliman University) are very far different from those Iskolar ng Bayan (students from University of the Philippines).Well then, they are all indeed true. In my first week here in Dumaguete City, I really told my mum that I couldn’t survive here since there are no big malls here wherein in Davao City, one of the malls there is just our neighbor.
Thence, my mum just asked me if I really wanted to pursue medicine or not. She even told me, “What are you up to there in Dumaguete? Malls? Night Life? or Medical School?”. There, I realized and remembered what Maya Angelou quoted.
