Medical Eponyms

  • De Musset sign: head nodding in time with the heartbeat

  • Corrigan sign: prominent carotid pulsations

  • Quincke sign: capillary pulsation in the nail beds; it is of no value, as this sign occurs normally

  • Mueller sign: pulsation of the uvula in time with the heartbeat

  • Duroziez sign: systolic and diastolic murmurs over the femoral artery on gradual compression of the vessel

  • Traube sign: a double sound heard over the femoral artery on compressing the vessel distally; this is not the “pistol shot” sound that may be heard over the femoral

  • Hill’s sign: increased blood pressure in the legs compared with the arms
