Diabetes is one of the many lifestyle diseases which affects not only the adult but also the kids, even a 5-year old child. This also do not have sex preferences. Diabetes affects both male and female.
This time, we have to learn the types and corresponding cause of diabetes.
There are three (3) types of diabetes.
Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus or Insulin Dependent Diabetes or Juvenile-Onset Diabetes Mellitus. The onset of this type of diabetes is usually during the childhood that is why this is so-called Juvenile-Onset Diabetes Mellitus before. However, there are also some cases wherein this type has been found out from adult individuals, the more latest name is the Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus of IDDM.
What happened in this type of diabetes is that the patient’s immune system subsequently destroys the cells that release insulin probably due to bacterial infection, viral or any other or idiopathic causes. This eventually eliminates the production of insulin from the body and without insulin, the body’s cells cannot absorb sugar (glucose) which the body needs to produce energy.
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus or Non-Insulin Dependent Diabetes or Adult-Onset Diabetes Mellitus. This type of Diabetes occurs at any age when the body cannot properly use the insulin although it is being produced at a normal amount. This is called insulin insensitivity or resistance of the body from insulin. As a consequent result, the sugar in the body builds up in the blood instead of being used as energy.
Gestational Diabetes. This type of diabetes just occur during pregnancy, and obviously only affects women during their second to third trimester of pregnancy. This results to having a baby that is large compared to the normal. The blood sugar level will eventually goes back to normal after pregnancy but not to all patients since many became overt diabetic after pregnancy as well as their babies.
