Receding Gums: Prevention and Treatment

Daily shower, tooth-brushing, flossing, frequent hand washing and wearing clean clothes –– these are some of the important hygienic habits that we all (especially the kids) should observe to keep us healthy. But it seems like proper tooth-brushing comes the most complicated if not the most ignored habit among the above listed habits.

Improper brushing or the use of wrong toothbrush may result to Gum Recession. It is a dental condition which involves a significant loss of protective tissues in the gums that surrounds the teeth and therefore allowing the root of the teeth to get exposed. Gum Recession is not something that happens overnight. It is a progressive procedure that could take years before it is noticed. Sensitive teeth, bad breath, puffy, red or swollen gums, gum bleeding while brushing or flossing, cavities below the gum line are common signs and symptoms of Gum Recession.

Receding gums treatment may vary according to the mildness or severity of the condition. It would be best to visit a dental clinic nearest you if you think you have one for proper diagnosis and treatment. Of course nothing beats prevention. Practicing good oral hygiene (especially to those who hate the idea of facing a dentist’s drill) remains the best way to prevent gum problems. The healthier your teeth are, the happier you look.
